Angelina Jolie may have more surgery to have ovaries removed

May 15, 2013 (NEW YORK)

People magazine reports Jolie is planning to also have her ovaries removed.

This comes after the 37-year old had a double mastectomy after discovering she is a carrier of the BRCA1 gene, which increases the risk of breast and ovarian cancer.

Jolie lost her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, to ovarian cancer in 2007 at the age of 56.

Jolie wrote about her mother's death from cancer at 56 and that she carries a gene herself that, according to doctors, left her with an 87 percent chance of breast cancer and 50 percent chance of ovarian cancer. She describes in detail the procedures she underwent from early February to late April to remove tissue and reconstruct her breasts with implants.
