2 CTA unions vow to defeat Emanuel

June 3, 2013 (CHICAGO)

The locals of the Amalgamated Transit Union demonstrated outside CTA headquarters. They accused CTA President Forrest Claypool of being a liar, union buster and henchman for the mayor. They say he's trying to break the union by violating seniority rights and refusing to honor their contract. And they say the CTA won't negotiate the issues.

"Instead of sitting down and working out our differences they have chosen to ignore this union. That was a big mistake," said Robert Kelly, Amalgamated Transit Union.

In a statement, the CTA says it is willing to negotiate and has offered arbitration, which the union has accepted.
