CTA Yellow Line service resumes, major delays on Red, Purple lines after electrical loss

June 25, 2013 (CHICAGO)

The CTA says the Red Line & Purple Line Express service is experiencing major delays between Howard and Belmont due to track switching problems from an earlier power loss at Howard. Trains are beginning to move as power has been restored.

As a result, Red and Purple Line Express services are experiencing major delays at this time. Congestion from trains delayed into Howard will take time to clear and fully restore to normal service across the route, according to the CTA.

#22, #36, #151 and lakefront bus routes can be considered alternatives to Red Line and Purple Line Express service.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Chicago Transit Authority posted alerts on its website and Twitter page Tuesday regarding the loss of power. The alerts advised that the Red and Purple lines were experiencing major delays, and that service on the Yellow Line was "temporarily suspended due to a loss of power." The CTA said the Red Line was affected between Howard and Belmont.
