Joel Wittkamp, 16, and Ashley Seay, 17, died when the vehicle they were in struck a tree in February. Wittkamp was driving.
It was originally thought weather played a role in the crash, but speed may have been a major factor. Recently, the Daily Herald obtained new documents. An accident reconstructionist with the Lake County Sheriff's Office noted the vehicle speed coming off the roadway was over 100 miles per hour based on damage to the vehicle and the tree it struck.
