Man fatally shot in Belmont Cragin on city's Northwest Side

November 1, 2013 (CHICAGO)

The shooting happened around 4:05 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Fullerton and Menard in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood on the city's Northwest Side. The victim, believed to be in his 20s, was shot multiple times, and drove several blocks east down Fullerton to Central, where the car stopped near the busy intersection. He died at an area hospital.

"I heard five shots so that woke me up because it was really, really loud. So I said it had to be really close to my house. And I woke up my husband and he said someone must have gotten killed because like I said, the neighborhood is really dangerous," Ramonita Lozada said.

Police have not released a motive in the case. No one is in custody.

The shooting occurred the same day the Chicago Police Department released a report that overall crime is down.

"I don't believe it. I don't believe it," she said.
