Twenty-five-year-old Erica Hampton was charged Thursday.
Police say a neighbor found the woman's 7-month-old baby inside the family's apartment unresponsive and with no adults home.
The Medical Examiner is trying to determine the cause of death.
Hampton's next court appearance is December 24.
