Hinsdale Middle School back open for classes after mold problem closes school for more than 2 weeks

February 4, 2014 (HINSDALE, Ill.)

State officials gave the school a clean bill of health on Monday after reams of drywall and flooring had to be replaced. Hinsdale Middle School was closed for three weeks during the clean-up process and students had to attend nearby Clarendon Hills Middle School. That meant a compressed, 4 1/2 day schedule for all students-- with Clarendon Hills students attending morning classes and Hinsdale students arriving at noon.

"I'm really excited to be back. I really missed HMS. I mean, this is our school. It was kind of weird being away from it," Julia Sint, student, said.

"It's definitely going to be a lot more normal. It's not going to be a different schedule, so it's going to be a lot easier," Lily Jones, student, said.

The superintendent says there are still long-term building issues that need to be addressed, including an aging roof and some areas where leaks have been a problem.
