At least 12 catalytic converter thefts have been reported since January 24.
They happened in four South Side neighborhoods: Washington Heights, Roseland, Auburn Gresham and Morgan Park.
The thieves are mostly targeting small to mid-size SUV's.
Once removed from vehicles, catalytic converters are usually taken to junkyards and sold for several hundred dollars.
