2014 Chicago Marathon lottery participants will be notified Monday of whether they won a spot in the race via email, according to the Bank of America Chicago Marathon team.

According to a release, more than 71,000 people applied for the 2014 race through the lottery system that was put in place this year. Race officials said emails will let those who applied find out if they get to run in the October 12, 2014, Chicago Marathon.

Only 45,000 will participate in the run. Those entrants include all runners, both those who participated in the lottery and those who were guaranteed entry through time qualifications, charities or legacy participants. Some spaces still exist through the race's official charity program. Find out how to join a charity team at http://www.chicagomarathon.com/charity-community/charity-program/.

An estimated 1.7 million spectators are expected to cheer on runners on October 12, 2014. The race starts and finishes in Chicago's Grant Park.
