Deadly Harvey fire probed as suspicious

A south suburban fire that claimed the life of a teenage boy is under investigation.The fire happened just before 5:30 Friday at 145th and Vine in Harvey.

When firefighters arrived, the home was fully engulfed. The homeowner called 911 and managed to get out, but 15-year-old Larry Powell was killed.

Family and friends returned to the destroyed home Saturday.

Powell's aunt says her nephew was an outgoing teen who loved athletics.

"[He was] smart. He had a lot of ambitions an goals, even to play professional football," said Felicia Johnson.

Firefighters have not determined yet the cause or origin of the fire. It i's not known if the home had working smoke detectors.
