Gas tanker shot, causing leak

A tanker truck on the city's South Side was shot Monday, causing a hazmat situation that evacuated a nearby building and led gasoline to leak into the sewer.The water department and hazmat crews secured the scene at 7900 S. Western around 5 p.m. The tanker leaked about 75 gallons of fuel through a bullet hole.

The driver was uninjured, but another person outside the truck was shot and taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition.

The Chicago Fire Department said the bullet that struck the tanker appeared to be a stray bullet.
