Chicago officials investigate mailbox explosion

CHICAGO The small explosion left the public mailbox a mangled mess, littering mail all over the street near Lawndale and Montrose.

The postal inspector's officer confirms they are investigating the incident along with the bomb and arson section of the Chicago Police Department.

All the mail not damaged will be sent on. The damaged mail will be returned to the sender.

No one has been charged in what officials say is a federal crime.
