Do you share your prescription medications? A new study says a surprising percentage of Americans admit to giving medications to friends and family.

Allergy drugs such as Claritin or Allegra and pain killers such as Darvoset are among the drugs most often shared. But researchers also found people were willing to share antibiotics mood medications such as Ritalin, Paxil and even birth control pills.

According to the study in the American Journal of Public Health, people weren't trying to abuse drugs, they just wanted to be helpful.

Borrowing or loaning prescription drugs can lead to dangerous drug reactions and side effects.
