Northwest Airlines will begin testing a paperless boarding passes next week. Once a passenger checks in for a flight, he or she can have an e-boarding pass sent to a cell phone, PDA or other wireless device. A bar code-like image will appear on the screen so it can be scanned like a paper boarding pass.

It's currently being tested in Indianapolis.

Continental Airlines is testing a similar paperless boarding system.
