Skin cancer survivors face greater recurrence risk

Skin cancer survivors face twice the risk of a developing a second malignancy, according doctors at the Hollings Cancer Research Center who studied 769 skin cancer patients and 18,000 healthy control subjects. They found the skin cancer survivors wound up with greater odds of developing lung, breast prostate and colon cancers.

A troubling result of the study showed higher rates of second malignancies among young patients between the ages of 25 and 44.
