Officer turned community activist dies

Chicago Police Officer Mike Robbins, who was wounded in the line of duty in 1994, has died.Robbins was shot nearly a dozen times by a gang member. A bullet proof vest saved his life but he was forced to take medical disability for the rest of his career.

The incident inspired him to become a community activist, fighting for children in difficult neighborhoods and against the proliferation of guns.

Robbins was 57 years old. He died on September 13th of unknown causes.
