Fan Ban in effect at some games

In an attempt to prevent violence, some fans will not be allowed at high school basketball games in Chicago. The 'fan ban' went into effect last week following several incidents, including a drive-by shooting that wounded several people at a Dunbar High School basketball game earlier this month. Also, last week a basketball player from North Lawndale Prep was shot in the leg following a game.

Calvin Davis is sports administration director of Chicago Public Schools. The 'fan ban' has new restrictions:

  • all boys varsity basketball at 4 p.m.
  • no fans from opposing teams without permission
  • no fans from an opposing team if there has been a history of violence
