Ash Wednesday observed around Chicago

Ash Wednesday marks the start of Lent for many Christians. At Saint Peter's Church in Chicago, ashes were placed on the foreheads of worshippers. They're made from the burned palms used in last year's Palm Sunday celebration.

The ashes are a reminder to Christians about the fragility of life. Lent is a time of repentance, reflection and sacrifice for many Christians around the world.
