Fewer teens are taking up smoking and that could be linked to new laws, the higher cost of cigarettes and bans on smoking in public places.A new study from the University of Massachusetts medical school finds that enforcement of new laws that prohibit tobacco sales to minors have helped to drive down teen smoking to its lowest levels since 1991

Experts are encouraged by the findings but say youth smoking remains a problem despite recent progress.

More than 12 percent of American teens still smoke.
