A city council committee wants to stop an upcoming 50 percent increase in admission to the Art Institute. The change would raise the price from $12 to $18 and is scheduled to take effect May 23.

Alderman Ed Burke initially planned to pressure the Art Institute by cutting off the free water and other public subsidies to museums that charge more than $10 for admission.

The committee has issued a resolution demanding that the park district rescind the increase.
