Weekend race causes Ravenswood parking restrictions

April 24, 2009 The 13th annual Ravenswood 5k run steps off at 8 a.m. on Sunday.

Last year, dozens of cars were towed. Residents claimed they did not get any warning from the city.

Race organizers say they distributed flyers and sent out emails, and that city workers posted signs. This year, there are plenty of no parking signs visible in the neighborhood.

"We need everyone's cooperation. The area is often flyered and posted for no parking. We don't want anybody's car to be towed. If you don't move your car, that will be the case," Alderman Gene Schulter, of the 47th Ward, said.

Restrictions are in place starting at 5 a.m. on Sunday. Proceeds from the race benefit the food pantry at All Saints Episcopal Church and health centers at two area high schools.
