Crowd enjoys fireworks in suburbs

July 4, 2009 (ITASCA, Ill.) In west suburban Itasca, tens of thousands watched the fireworks display, which has become a tradition and one of the best shows in the area.

The show is put on by the Melrose Pyrotechnics, the same company that does the fireworks show for the city of Chicago.

The fireworks are choreographed to music, and in fact the tradition begins with a big concert. More than 30,000 people were treated earlier Saturday night to the music of Smashmouth.

"This is great, it's a great thing and it's really nice," Sunny Yi said, who had a front row seat to the fireworks.

"Next to the city of Chicago, they're some of the best fireworks. The Fourth of July is my favorite holiday, so we look forward to it every year," Barb Labellarte said.

"These are the best fireworks I've ever seen in my life," Don Oberg said.

The show lasts 23 minutes, but nearly 20% of the 6,000 shells go up during the last minute and a half of the show, that of course being the grand finale.
