Tillman's lawyers say he was a victim of torture by officers under the command of indicted former Chicago police lieutenant Jon Burge. They say Tillman was forced into giving a false confession of a 1986 murder.
"Not only was there not evidence other than the tortured confession, but there was evidence, fingerprint evidence, and other kinds of evidence that pointed to other men," said G. Flint Taylor, attorney for Michael Tillman.
Tillman's attorneys say he was a victim of waterboarding, near suffocation and a mock execution over the course of three days.
