Magnificent Mile Lights Festival to kick off

November 12, 2009 (PRESS RELEASE) Mickey Mouse, Santa Claus and many organizers of The Magnificent Mile Lights Festival presented by Harris will gather to test the lights Thursday on North Michigan Avenue to kick off the annual festival and procession that will take place on Saturday, November 21.

In addition to Mickey Mouse and Santa, a sneak preview of some of the floats, including Santa flying over the John Hancock Observatory, and procession entertainment will be on hand. The Radio Disney AM 1300 Road Crew also will be on site with festive music and a host of snow cannons will create a flurry of snowflakes certain to put Chicagoans in the mood for the holidays.

Dubbed the nation's largest holiday event of its kind, the 18th Annual Magnificent Mile Lights Festival Presented by Harris will take place on Saturday, November 21 featuring live entertainment at Pioneer Court during the day including Walt Disney Records artist and "Hannah Montana" star Mitchel Musso, and the Plain White T's presented by 101.9 FM THE MIX. Musso's concert, sponsored by Radio Disney, is open to the public and will take place at 1:30 p.m. on the Harris Stage in Pioneer Court at 401 N. Michigan Avenue.

The highly anticipated, nationally televised lighting procession will begin at 5:30 pm featuring more than 30 floats, marching bands and other performers, and Mickey Mouse from Disney Parks as the grand marshal who will illuminate more than one million lights on 200 trees along The Magnificent Mile. The procession will culminate with a festive fireworks display along the river.
