Kirk: 'I am a social moderate'

November 11, 2009 (CHICAGO) Kirk, a north suburban congressman, spoke on Wednesday after presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to a World War II hero, former Staff Sergeant Clifford Labelle of Zion.

Kirk said he sent a memo to former Alaska governor Palin, the 2008 republican nominee for vice president, as he does to other party notables who visit Chicago.

"I am who I am. For example, a pro-choice member of Congress who doesn't believe in taxpayer funding for abortion. I am a social moderate, fiscal conservative. But this is a big race, and we are building a broad coalition. And it will be for a Republican candidacy a center-right coalition," said U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk, (R) U.S. Senate candidate.

Kirk said Palin hasn't yet responded to his memo.
