Daley outlines city's cold weather support

November 12, 2009 (CHICAGO) Mayor Daley outlined the range of support during his annual cold weather preparedness news conference. He says the city will use money from the parking meter lease to increase spending for home delivered meals to seniors and provide new funding for homeless shelter beds.

The city is also expanding its use of the city's safety cameras and GPS technology to help snow removal vehicles reach areas more quickly.

"You make sure they're salting the street. That's where you want to make sure. It's accountability. Its more accountability, all of it and you need more and more technology. That's where we're all going with fire, police, building department, sanitation. Technology is here to stay," said Daley.

Mayor Daley added that Chicago residents can call 3-1-1 to get help with cold weather-related problems.
