Cook Co. Board passes new budget

For the first time in a decade, the Cook County Board passed its new budget before the end of its fiscal year. The $3 billion budget holds the line on taxes in 2010, and even includes the recently-approved cut in the county sales tax increase which Board President Todd Stroger is promising to veto.

Unlike past years, thanks to a new state law, it may be easier for commissioners to override a veto.

Commissioners only need 11 votes, instead of 14.
