Burtner was the head of the VFW in southwest suburban Midlothian. Monday morning, relatives say Burtner came to a Midlothian bank to deposit money from a fundraiser when a robber attacked.
The medical examiner says Burtner's ribs were broken, triggering heart complications. He died Wednesday.
One man is in custody, but police say they are looking for a second suspect.
