Wednesday, they delivered the loads to the food depository's training and distribution center to be used by its member pantries, soup kitchens and shelters to feed those in need.
"What we have here today, because of United's generosity, is about 48,000 pounds of food that came in over the past couple days," said Bob Dolgan, of the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
The donation helps the depository meet its increasing demand - which it says is up 26 percent over the same period from 2008.
