Daniele International added more than 17,000 pounds to its earlier recall after determining black pepper used to coat the salami is linked to a salmonella outbreak. The recall was triggered by a lawsuit filed by an Illinois family whose infant son became ill after his mother ate one of the company's products.

The outbreak has spread across 40 states and sickened nearly 200 people.

Consumers who have the recalled salami should return it to the store for a refund.
