40th anniversary for canine border cops

U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Chicago marks the 40th anniversary of using those talented four-legged canine federal workers.

Officials demonstrated the dogs in the canine program in Rosemont.

While some might find the dogs cute and cuddly, they have a serious job: helping protect the country from hidden and dangerous contraband.

The dogs go through weeks of specialized training so that they can find items being smuggled into the country.

Currently, there are more than 13-hundred customs and border protection canine teams across the U.S.
