Multivitamins could hurt fetus late in pregnancy

Apr. 15, 2010

A new study finds a woman's risk of delivery prematurely tripled if she continued taking the prenatal pills into her third trimester. The reason for this remains unclear.

The study's author reports that one possibility is that interactions between different vitamins and minerals led to a reduction in the nutrients available for the growing fetus.

The study is from the U.S. National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.
