A man who formerly lived in the west suburbs is charged with detonating a pipe bomb at the Hinsdale Metra station in 2006.

Federal authorities say Thomas James Zajac caused the explosion that damaged the commuter rail station and tracks on the BNSF rail line.

A pipe bomb went off in a trash can during the morning commute.

There were no serious injuries.

Zajac once lived in Oakbrook Terrace, but he is now in federal custody in Utah. He is expected to be arraigned in Chicago in the next few weeks.
