The first birds to test positive for the West Nile virus this year have been found in northwestern and southern Illinois.

The birds tested are from Linark in Carroll County and Belleville in Saint Clair County.

The Illinois director of public health, Dr. Damon Arnold, says as temperatures start to warm up there is an increased risk for West Nile because of the rise in mosquito activity.
