Report: Some diet sodas could prevent kidney stones

May 14, 2010

Researchers found that citrus-based diet versions of sodas such as 7Up, Sunkist and Sprite contain fairly high amounts of a something called citrate. The compound is known to inhibit the formation of calcium oxalate stones, the most common form of kidney stones.

The study in the Journal of Urology suggests that diet sodas could offer some extra help for people prone to forming kidney stones.
