Chuck West faces five counts of official misconduct.
Prosecutor Charles Colburn says West failed to perform his mandated duties and didn't properly dispose of a 24-inch television taken from the home of a Carpentersville man who died in 2007.
West has denied wrongdoing. He has said the TV was being stored for the deceased man's family.
West's attorney hasn't returned a call seeking comment Tuesday.
West is due in court on May 27 and faces up to a five-year prison sentence, if convicted. West was elected coroner in 2000.
