Peter Erlinder has been charged with denying Rwanda's 1994 genocide and publishing articles threatening the country's security. He was arrested on May 28.
His attorneys argued that Erlinder is ill and should be released on bail so he could return home for treatment. But a judge ruled they failed to show a connection between his sickness and being in jail.
