30th year of the Taste of Chicago

June 25, 2010 On a sun-kissed Fourth of July in 1980, the Taste of Chicago launched what would become a summer tradition. The city's premier event turns 30 this year and begins in its longtime home of Grant Park on Chicago's lakefront, June 25-July 4.

Offering more than 300 menu items, this year's event will feature an astounding 11 new food vendors: Abundance Bakery; Bobak Sausage Company; Carbon; Churro Factory; Cubby Bear; Doreen's Gourmet Pizz; Iyanze; Pegasus Restaurant and Taverna; Shokoland Pastry and Cafe; Summer Noodle and Rice; and Timothy O'Toole's Pub. Additionally, Taste offers some of the stars of culinary community at the Dominick's Cooking Corner including Mario Batali and Giada De Larentiis.

Food and beverage tickets will once again sell for $8 a strip of 12 tickets. Dominick's shoppers can take advantage of early sales, purchasing strips of tickets for only $6 while showing a Fresh Values card, June 17-24 at participating Dominick's locations.

In addition to three separate public preview events (Taste Restaurant Days, Preview at Prudential Plaza and a Daley Plaza public preview on June 8 and 9,) Taste of Chicago will have an app to go with your appetite. This free download which can direct you to entertainment and food will be available to i-phone beginning just before Taste opens.

Food & Beverage Tickets

Food and beverages are sold by tickets only. Tickets are sold in strips of 12 for $8 at the festival, which includes a $2 surcharge that contributes to event amenities including clean up, security and recycling.

Each vendor has the food prices posted on their booth. More than 200 different food items are available at the event, with no food item costing more than 12 tickets "Taste of" portions (smaller offerings of one of the restaurants menu items) are available for 2-4 tickets.

Visa, Mastercard and American Express are accepted at the ticket booths. Positive I.D. is required when making a credit card purchase.
