2 boys shot in pair of Friday night shootings

A 2-year-old boy is recovering after being shot in the hand Friday night on the South Side.

The toddler was playing on the street or in a park near 69th Street and Wabash Avenue. His injury is not thought to be life-threatening.

About the same time, a 14-year-old boy was shot in the face while standing in a crowd on the near Southwest Side. The teen told police he was in a verbal altercation when the gunman pulled a handgun and opened fire in the 3200-block of South Lithuanica. The boy was alert as paramedics took him to the hospital in critical condition.
