A new program is pushing children in one Chicago neighborhood to skip the junk food and start running.

A summer initiative to fight childhood obesity is underway on the near West Side.

Organizers held a kickoff event Saturday at Ellen Gates Starr Park to encourage kids to sign up.

A summer running program will train kids twice a week to prepare them for the Chicago Blackhawks 5-K race in September.

They are also bringing in local chefs to prepare healthy foods, and bringing in speakers to explain the dangers of obesity.
