Villa Park residents push for billboard removal

July 27, 2010 (VILLA PARK, Ill.)

Clear Channel Communications installed the billboard along Roosevelt Road in May. But people living in some nearby condos say the flashing lights are disruptive. They also say village officials did not follow the proper procedures before the billboard went up.

Residents want the village board to vote against a measure to allow the billboard to remain in place.

"It is a nuisance. The light is just so bright. It shines right into our front rooms, our bedrooms. It's an 80 foot sign. It's really not in an appropriate place," said Mary Wyse, Willow Oaks Condo Association, on Monday night.

Wyse believes the billboard has lowered the value of the affected properties. She says it would be better if it were placed along an expressway.
