EPA holds coal ash hearing in Chicago

The Environmental Protection Agency is hearing public comment over proposed changes to the disposal and management of coal ash from coal-fired power plants.

Dozens of people have told the EPA panel that changes must be made.

The proposal puts into place protective controls such as liners and ground water monitoring at new landfills to protect ground water and human health.

The hearing continues at the Hilton Hotel on South Michigan Avenue until 9 p.m. Thursday.
