The newspaper reported that nearly $600,000 has already been raised to pay for the Sayers Center. It was supposed to be completed two years ago. But plans have stalled.
On ABC7 News This Morning, Sayers blamed the tough economy.
Sayers says he is committed to building the community center and raising the money needed for it. This weekend, he's hosting his third gala fundraiser An Evening with the Stars.
