Four new stops would be a major addition to the South Side. Some commuters spend an hour or more on buses to get to the southernmost stop on 95th Street.
According to the plan, the extension would add stops at 103rd, 111th and 130th streets, a five-and-a-half mile extension, and with those stops, there would possibly be more stores and businesses.
Chicago Transit Authority officials say they have gotten $285,000 in federal money and are hoping to get millions more. The entire project would cost $1.4 billion.
"If you don't have a car, you don't have nothing out here," said CTA rider Carl Mables.
"It is all about the money, and get it done and stop talking about it, it would be a good thing," said CTA rider Johnny King.
The CTA says the project is its number-one priority, and it could move quickly. The estimated completion date is 2016 as of now.
