Study: Colonoscopies miss 1 out of 13 cancers

The study in the American Journal of Gastroenterology also found women were a third more likely to have had their cancer missed.

It also found general practice physicians missed cancers 60 percent more often than gastroenterologists.

Researchers say, given the wide variation in colonoscopy training, there should be standards that would require credentialing and re-credentialing physicians who administer it.
