Jackson marks birthday, remembers Albertina Walker

October 9, 2010 (CHICAGO) Rev. Jesse Jackson celebrated his 69th birthday by cutting a big birthday cake and passing out pieces during the coalition's weekly meeting. Among the speakers praising Jackson were Congressman Bobby Rush and Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan.

However, Jackson called attention to the death of a gospel legend, Chicagoan Albertina Walker.

"For her singing, for her life, for her living, for her Christian stewardship, she helped to found the Breadbasket Choir here at then Operation PUSH. Show your love for sister Albertina Walker," Jackson said.

Walker won a Grammy award during her half-century career and was a member of the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
