Pledge for peace honors slain Fenger student

Participants placed their handprints on the cement wall near where West 111th Street where the 16-year-old Albert was beaten to death. Their peace pledge is aimed at stopping youth violence before it spreads.

"Violence is a virus. Don't catch it. starts in the heart and grows in the head. If you don't stop it in the head, its acting out in the hand," community activist EvAngel Mamadeelove said.

The group wants the city to donate the lot to establish a permanent garden and non-violence education center.
