Group calls Quinn 'enemy' of taxpayers

October 14, 2010 (CHICAGO)

The president of National Taxpayers United of Illinois says Quinn has been "a relentless enemy" of taxpayers.

Jim Tobin is critical of several bills that he says have increased property taxes. And his group opposes Quinn's proposal to raise income taxes, saying it would only benefit government employees.

"The income tax increase will be used to provide these people with gold plated pensions. Excuse me. Lavish, gold plated pensions," said Tobin.

Quinn's office issued a statement saying, "the governor's budget proposal this year was to have a 1-percent education surcharge to help fund our schools and maintain education."
