The federal government is warning that hormone treatments for prostate cancer may also need new warnings about a small increased risk of diabetes and heart problems.

The medications include Lupron and Eligard. The drugs are used to suppress the production of testosterone, a hormone that helps fuel prostate cancer growth.

The FDA says the risk of diabetes and heart disease is low but patients should be regularly monitored.
