It has been 45 years since a young Chicago soldier sacrificed his life to save others in his platoon. The city honored Private First Class Milton Lee Olive Friday.

A veteran who served in Olive's unit in Vietnam laid a wreath at the Olive Memorial in Olive Park.

Mayor Daley was among the many Chicagoans who paid their respects.

Olive was just 18 years old when he smothered a grenade with his body to save the lives of four fellow soldiers on October 22, 1965.
